Farmington Walk and Roll is a local program of the national, Safe Routes to School program. Our goal is to make it safe, convenient, and fun for children to walk and roll to school.
A few facts
Encouragement – Use events and activities to promote walking and bicycling.
Education – Instruct children about the broad range of transportation choices, teach them lifelong safety skills, and launch driver safety campaigns.
Engineering – Improve the infrastructure surrounding schools, reduce speeds, and establish safer crosswalks and pathways.
Enforcement – Partner with local police to enforce traffic laws, and coordinate with crossing guard programs.
Evaluation – Collect data to measure the program’s achievements.
We are involved in the following:
International Bike and Walk to School Days
Walking School Bus (walking a group of kids to school)
Teaching pedestrian safety in classrooms
Bike Rodeos - teaching bicycle safety and skills
Participation in local events including the annual Christmas Parade, Riverfest and Kid Fest
Join us in giving children the sense of freedom, responsibility and health that come from walking or bicycling to school. Together, we can provide children with the opportunity to know their neighborhoods, enjoy fresh air and arrive at school alert, refreshed and ready to start the day.
It's the Fall Walk to School Day, Wednesday October 5, 2016. 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.
